Fishing in Portugal

Portugal is a spectacular fishing destination.  The slow moving waters of the rivers and lakes, amongst the rolling plains, in the Alentejo region offer a peaceful haven in which to enjoy a truly wild fishing experience.  The fishing is good all year round, with each season bringing unique challenges and adventures, with a great variety of fish to choose from.

Fly fishing

You can fly fish for two species of mullet, four species of barbel, carp, shad, black bass in various locations on the reservoirs and the Rio Guidiana

Carp Fishing

The reservoirs and rivers in the Alentejo region offer plenty of opportunity for some amazing carp fishing - perhaps even the catch of a lifetime!  There are also zones that allow for night fishing, including the Alqueva Dam.

Course Fishing

A favourite location for course fishing is the tidal stretch of the Rio Guidiana at Mertola.  You can bag up on barbel, carp, mullet, eels.

Predator Fishing

Predator fishing can be done from a boat or the bank at various river locations. Our boat is a 3m inflatable, electric outboard, fish finder which provides a safe and stable ride while waiting for the black bass, zander, channel catfish, pike and shad to bite.

Rods, reels and tackle are available to use - but you can bring your own if that is preferred - and fishing licenses are organised on your behalf.  Your catch can be cleaned for you at the end of the day and then you can feast on it while enjoying a nice glass of vinho verde.
